The European Parliament hosted a public hearing on the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in Europe.
The European Parliament (EP) is drafting a report on the implementation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) in Europe following up the CRPD Committee’s Concluding Observations on the EU.
To inform this report the EP held a public hearing on the 27th January 2016 to gain input and exchange views with civil society organisations and representatives of the disability movement.
Many organisations and civil society groups were present to engage with Members of the European Parliament raising issues and providing recommendations on the implementation of the CRPD. Critical area’s included freedom of movement, legal capacity, political participation, refugees with disabilities, equal access to justice, inclusive education, equal access to cross border health care and deinstitutionalisation.
